I stare down at my shiny ring while Axel drives us back to the compound. It’s perfect, and not what I was expecting to happen this evening. Truly, I thought Axel was going to get us new identities or something, but this was so much better.

I sense he needed this more than I did, having some sort of declaration over me. I’m happy that I could give him this peace of mind as we move forward in this new phase of our life, in becoming a pack. It’s only fair that Axel gets a piece of me, too. I don’t know what it’s like to be the only Beta in the pack, and I never want him to feel less than because he’s so fucking far from that. He’s perfectly made for me, and now he’s my husband.

He puts in the code to the front gate and drives through while I duck down, making sure no one sees us in the same car together. I’m so ready to no longer feel like a secret when it comes to my relationship with him and Cash. My stomach is filled with nerves and sadness, but also some underlying excitement.

He’s careful while pulling into the garage, knowing that our first order of business is to check in with Cash. We need to see how far he’s come along, what he still needs help packing, and hopefully put a plan in place; starting with… deciding exactly where we’re headed after everyone is ready. Then the last order of business is saying my goodbyes, which I will make sure to not phrase as goodbyes, but I need to see some of these people one last time before I can move on. I already know Leon supports this decision, but seeing Shelby is going to be hard. I’m not sure how to leave this place without seeing my mom, but part of me knows if I see her, I’ll chicken out.

Luckily for us, Cash is in the garage, filling the van with what looks to be most of my shit. I wonder if he went through my window, or if he was able to disarm the security system to the house… that seems like something Cash would be able to do.

Cash gives Axel a shitty look. We were definitely gone longer than the few hours he promised, but the van looks nearly full.

“Y’all set?” Cash asks, coming around and wrapping his arms around me.

“Yeah, we’re all set.” I show him the ring on my finger, and he looks over, assessing Axel.

“Engaged?” he asks. There isn’t shock in his tone, he’s asking more so out of curiosity.

“Nah, skipped that step,” Axel replies proudly.

“Married?” Cash asks, looking down at me. I bite my lip and nod my head, wondering if maybe he’ll be angry or feel hurt. He gave me the option to bond with him, which I declined, but still went off and married Axel. “Congrats, baby girl,” he says, surprising me and placing a soft kiss on the top of my head.
